Though the Sandero has moved with the times, getting more technology and interior space as the generations have gone by, its approach to low cost, cheap and simple motoring has never faltered.

Overall rating 4/5One of the UK's cheapest cars, the Dacia Sandero is never going to be a car to excite or to impress with its equipment or its spectacular drive. It is impressive in other ways however - particularly in the fact that, considering its price (a little over £5,000 from new), it's not awful. In fact it's surprisingly competent. A 1.2 litre petrol engine is the only (and somewhat conservative) option, but powers the compact supermini along with precision and decent refinement, while the size inside (space for - at a push - five adults), easily rivals cars which come with an asking price double that of the Sandero. It might not be the most dynamic car to drive, nor is it particularly well equipped, but the Sandero is easily one of the best value options in the hotly contested supermini market.
