Capitalising somewhat on the success of their Golf, Volkswagen took the recipe of cost-effective, reliable motoring and a sprinkling of street style and chucked it at the Family Car Market - the result is the Passat. Now in its thirtieth year and sixth generation, the Passat has followed a similarly ergonomic design path as its little brother and like the Golf, it's got a reputation for driveability and intelligent use of internal space. If you're looking for a car to retain its value for resale, consider the Passat - a car that combines respectable numbers across fuel efficiency and CO2 with respectability in the office car park. Internally, there's plenty of extras to choose from, too. Keep an eye out for the 2011 Passat Alltrack if you're looking something a little more SUV.
