Land Rover receives one millionth axle module from ZF

Parts manufacturer ZF has supplied its one millionth axle system to Land Rover, its assembly plant in Solihull has announced.

The main beneficiaries of this supply, which has been ongoing since July 2004, have been the Land Rover Discovery and the Range Rover Sport.

Corner modules are supplied to car companies completely assembled, including the entire wheel suspension setup – with components such as wheel carriers, bearings, dampers and springs – and the brake system.

In addition to this milestone, ZF is also celebrating the fact that it has now been operating for 12 months without a single defect.

This success is credited to "teamwork and a perfectly organised production process".

A total of 36 million parts and 56 thousands tonnes of material are purchased and these undergo more than 500 different manual and computer-controlled inspections. According to ZF, this process ensures that its parts are "absolutely faultless".

The company also supplies components to Mercedes, for the M, R and CL Class models and BMW, for the X3 and Z4.
