MOT stations ‘should be ready for risk assessment’

Garages which test vehicles for their MOT certificates should be prepared for further assessments which will commence in 2008, it has been reported.

According to the Vehicle Operator Services Agency (Vosa) will perform an MOT Enforcement Transformation assessment as is mandatory within the industry.

Stephen Coles from the MOT Operations Team of the Retail Motor Industry Federation commented that the body can use the tests as leverage when it comes to making changes and improvements.

He said: "Vosa can use this evidence to support a view that stations that fall short in these non-MOT areas lack a degree of professionalism in their approach to their staff and clients."

Mr Coles added that all establishments should look to hit the targets outlined in the best practice guide.

This comes as the Hastings Observer reports that MOT tester Jamie Lister has received an 18-month ban for taking to the road while under the influence of alcohol.
