Expert Opinion

The stand out models of the Citroen range may be those on the small and frugal side of things, but the C5 shows that the French manufacturer can do refined and luxurious just as well. An impressive and comfortable executive saloon, it is edging ever closer to the German behemoths which dominate the class. Inside, heated seats and a back massager bring about a sumptuous comfort which borders on the indulgent, while on the road the refinement, smooth ride and power make it a joy to drive. Although the 3.0 litre diesel offers the best performance (0-60 in just over six seconds), the 2.0 HDi is a better mix of power and efficiency. Although not quite a match for its BMW or Mercedes rivals, it is arguably the best family saloon Citroen have ever produced.
