While the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series and Mercedes C-Class might be the obvious choices in the compact executive car class, these shouldn’t necessarily be your default choices – as Jaguar’s XE shows. It’s a model that prioritises driving pleasure, style and quality, and is the younger brother to the XF in Jaguar’s saloon car line-up. Offering a range of swift petrol and diesel engines – with some of the latter being impressively efficient – it’s well worth a look. The latest versions also get a great infotainment system, which was one of the weaknesses of the earlier cars.
