No edits, no filters—just real feedback from verified vehicle owners to help you make confident decisions.
Overall rating 4/5hile many people think of cars like the XK or E-Type when they imagine Jaguar, it’s actually the firm’s range of SUVs which have been instrumental in the brand’s strategy over recent years. Following on from the successful F-Pace came this car - the E-Pace - as a smaller SUV which delivered the same high level of quality as its larger stablemate.

Challenging cars like the Mercedes GLA and BMW X1, the E-Pace is aimed at families and drivers who want a raised-up driving position in a car which isn’t too large. Introduced in 2017, the Jaguar E-Pace expanded the firm’s range of SUVs with a more compact offering. However, despite its size, Jaguar aimed to give the E-Pace ‘big car’ feel through a distinctive design and lots of upmarket touches. The E-Pace was also accompanied by a good range of engines, while plug-in hybrid setups were added to the list later on in the car’s life.
Jaguar equipped the E-Pace with lots of safety systems, including emergency braking with pedestrian detection and lane keep assist. A Drive Condition Monitor was also fitted to the E-Pace as standard and this can sound an alert if it detects fatigue in the person behind the wheel. Crash-tested by Euro NCAP in 2017, the E-Pace was awarded a maximum five-star rating with its variety of safety systems making a significant contribution to this.
You’ve got three petrol and three diesel 2.0-litre engines in various states of tune. There’s also a mix of front- and four-wheel-drive, as well as either a six-speed manual or nine-speed automatic gearbox. Later models were available with a plug-in hybrid, too, which brought a high power output and the ability to run for up to 39 miles on electric alone.
As with other Jaguar models the E-Pace comes with a good level of standard equipment, with a 10-inch infotainment screen being the main access point to media and navigation functions. You’ve also got Bluetooth connectivity for your phone. A refresh in 2020 brought a little more equipment and a revised infotainment system, so look out for models made after that point for a sharper tech experience.
Diesel power is the best efficiency-wise for the E-Pace, with entry-level 2.0-litre models able to return up to 42.7mpg. More powerful versions will bring in the region of 37mpg. Switch to standard petrol cars and you’ll see around 29mpg combined. The plug-in hybrid claims to return up to 201mpg, though you’ll need to keep it fully charged for most of the time in order to see this.
The E-Pace has suffered numerous gremlins so we’d be careful to check key areas such as brakes and steering, feeling for any knocking or wobbles which could indicate issues. Make sure that you try all of the major in-car controls to see that they work, too. However, one of the best ways to make sure a car is working as it should is by getting a trained engineer to take a look at it, and that’s just what the AA Vehicle Inspection offers. Take a look at what this service brings today.
Sadly, the E-Pace has a rather patchy reliability record, with numerous owners reporting issues with a variety of components, ranging from engines to interior electronics. Again, an AA Vehicle Inspection can help to give a clearer picture of any car you’re looking at, with a trained technician producing a detailed report on their findings.
The Jaguar E-Pace is offered with a number of 2.0-litre petrol and diesel engines, as well as a later plug-in hybrid.
