Overall rating 3.5/5The Bentley Azure is the definition of traditional luxury. It combines a powerful V8 engine with a sumptuously appointed cabin that ensures every trip feels out of the ordinary. Launched in 1995 and updated in 2006, it offers unmistakable design, a sense of unhurried grace, and speeds up to 168mph. It blends driveability and dramatic looks, especially with the roof down, and is admired for its smooth ride, hand-crafted leather interiors, and effortless cruising ability.
The Bentley Azure offers safety features in keeping with its era and class. Most models come with anti-lock braking, front and side airbags, rollover protection and traction control. You don't get modern touches like adaptive cruise control or lane-keep assistance, so attentive driving is essential, especially for such a sizeable car.
The Azure is most commonly equipped with Bentley’s 6.75-litre V8 petrol engine. In first-generation cars, power output varied but offered plenty of effortless acceleration. Second-generation models refined the engine further for smoother, quieter performance. No smaller engine options are available.
Earlier Bentley Azures offer traditional analogue dials, climate control and sound systems that were premium at the time. Later models bring more modern touches, including satellite navigation, improved sound quality and more advanced onboard systems. Compared to today’s cars, onboard infotainment is modest, which is part of the Azure's charm.
Fuel economy is not a strong point for the Azure – expect 15mpg to 18mpg under real-world conditions. The large, powerful V8 and the weight of the car mean running costs will always be substantial, which is something to keep in mind if your annual mileage is high.
Inspect the service history carefully – especially regular maintenance of the V8 and the folding roof mechanism. Electrical systems are areas to check for faults. As with any high-value luxury car, a professional inspection is wise – consider The AA Vehicle Inspection service for reassurance before buying.
Reliability is fair, though older Azures may require attention to ageing electrics and roof hydraulics. Regular servicing by a Bentley specialist is essential to keep things running smoothly. In general, these cars are robust if well-maintained, but costs can quickly add up if they're neglected or rarely used.
