Hamilton to race Scottish cycling hero

It has been announced that Lewis Hamilton is to race Scottish Olympic cycling hero Chris Hoy at Wembley later this year.

December 14th will be a busy day for the new world Formula One champion. Early that evening he will drive a Mercedes-Benz road car to take on triple Olympic gold medal winner Hoy.

Then he will be involved in another race – to dash to the Sports Personality of the Year Awards, where he is the red-hot favourite to win.

The Race of Champions is the event where Hamilton and his machine will take on Hoy and his bike on a "tight and twisty course".

Hamilton promised: "The atmosphere is going to be crazy.

"It’s going to be a great way to end a fantastic year, and I’m really looking forward to putting on a show to thank the fans from all over the world and my fantastic British fans for all their support."

Hoy commented: “I’m a big motor racing fan anyway and I’ve seen The Race of Champions on TV so to be there in the flesh is going to be great."
