UK plants show vehicle rise in November

Production plants in the UK manufactured an increased number of vehicles in November, according to new statistics.

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) have released figures showing that there were 146,236 automobiles made over the course of the month – 13.7 per cent higher than 2006.

Christopher Macgown, chief executive of the automotive body, stated that this was an encouragement to the industry.

Further figures show that there have been 1.4 million cars made in the UK so far this year, which represents a 5.5 per cent rise on the year before.

"November has followed the 2007 trend of growth in production, which is a testament to the investment manufacturers have made in the British motor industry," the official added.

Earlier this month, the SMMT released figures showing that there has been a 2.2 per cent increase in the amount of new cars registered in November compared to the same month in 2006.
