Corrie’s Amber avoids car insurance fraud

Coronation Street character Amber, the feisty daughter of Corrie’s lothario shopkeeper Dev, has avoided committing car insurance fraud by getting a job in the kebab shop.

In an earlier episode, Amber had been given a car as an 18th birthday present by Dev’s on-off lover Tara, leading an angry Dev to question how his child would be able to afford car insurance.

Naughty Amber’s suggestion was that the car insurance should remain in her name. Pretending that you are the driver on a car insurance claim is known as ‘fronting’ – it is illegal and something that reputable used car dealers would always advise against.

AA Insurance director Simon Douglas is happy that the suggestion wasn’t accepted as Amber will now pay for her insurance by working.

He said: "Insurers take fronting very seriously and will investigate if there is reason to doubt information that customers provide. Although Tara meant well by offering Amber her car, her plan could have cost more than an argument with Dev."
