On 12th Feb 2014 purchased and collected used 7 month old Audi Q3 from Glasgow Audi. After 2 weeks while on holiday in Inverness I noticed the car was was lower on near side and there was a visible difference from the offside .I contacted Glasgow Audi and I was eventually referred to there accident and repair service who advised uplifting the car and relaying to Glasgow. The car has been in Glasgow since late Friday 28th Feb.I contacted them on 3rd March and they agreed there was a problem with near side which they had referred to Audi UK. Audi UK have said it may be a weak spring that should be replaced but they were investigating further. I am going on holiday for 4 weeks today, Glasgow Audi have said they will keep the car and carry out repairs while I am away. They have assured me that the car did not have any accidental prior to my purchase I am apprehensive about the explanations received and would be grateful for your advice Rod Jackson - Gold member

I’ve had to check with colleagues in our technical department on this one.

I’m told that the Audi Q3 is equipped with MacPherson type front suspension and multilink independent rear suspension. Some larger Audi models have air suspension options but not the Q3 I gather.

Audi also offer adaptive electromagnetic dampers across the range to dynamically alter the vehicles handling characteristics on the go.

It seems most likely that the vehicle has suffered a broken road spring – spring failures of this type are quite common across all manufacturers and occur for a number of reasons including corrosion, potholes, and manufacturing defects. Springs are much lighter than they used to be so are not so durable.

A broken spring doesn’t necessarily indicate that the vehicle has been in a collision.

I’m sure the garage will get to the bottom of the problem and fix it for you
