Can I warn my insurance company to check or investigate a claim that might be excessive?

I am an AA member of many years. I have a question concerning insurance claims. I recently edged a Range Rover belonging to a guy who runs a claim company. He wants to claim for a new bumper £1800, plus special paint £400. Can I warn my insurance company to check or investigate the claim? Thanks.

Yes, contact your insurer straight away.

If you took any pictures send them, otherwise tell them what damage you believe was caused to the Range Rover. You could ask your insurer to have the car inspected.

Also tell them that the collision was minor and that no-one was injured, just in case the person driving the Range Rover goes on to attempt to make a whiplash injury claim which could end up costing your insurer thousands of pounds: this has become an increasingly common tactic among people involved in minor collisions.
