Expert Opinion

With the exterior styling of a hot hatch or sports coupé, the CR-Z has the look of a rubber-burning, boy-racers dream. Being a hybrid however, the reality doesn't quite live up to the expectation, but that's not to say that it doesn't offer an exciting, dynamic drive. The 1.5 litre petrol engine is aided by a lithium powered 19bhp electric motor to produce a drive that isn't always overwhelming with power, but with a 0-60 speed of just nine seconds and a top speed of 124mph, there is plenty to be excited about. Interior space is limited, and doesn't quite match up to that of some of its regular coupé rivals. What they can't offer however, is the 56.6mpg returns the CR-Z offers, which make it an attractive and economic alternative to the norm.
