Self-charging hybrids, as their names suggest, don't need plugging in but can only travel for short bursts with the engine off, predominantly around town.
Plug-in hybrids can typically be charged from empty to full in a few hours, and can then travel far more electric-only miles than other types of hybrids.
Our breakdown cover includes EV and Hybrid vehicles, with no extra premium to pay.

One of the first SUV Hybrids, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV has been around since 2014 so there are plenty of used car examples in the market. It is perfect for those looking for short range electric usage such as the school run or commute to the station and then switching to a more conventional petrol engine for longer trips. Unlike Lexus competitors which are self-charging, the Outlander offers a plug in hybrid solution. For those longer journeys, the electric motor works with the petrol engine to provide extra acceleration. Outlanders also come with 4WD to provide extra traction both on and off road.
One significant drawback to the Outlander PHEV Plug-In Hybrid variant is that a 7 seater option is not provided. If you are looking for an extra row of seats you will have to go for the petrol or diesel options.
To find your ideal Outlander PHEV, browse through our stock above using filter options to narrow down options. If you are looking for a second hand Outlander Plug In Hybrid close to home, enter your postcode and we will show you the nearest vehicles that are for sale in local dealerships. Enquire with that dealer by sending them a message, calling them or clicking through to their website. Watch out for vehicles that have been inspected by the AA.
