1913 was the year when Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford established Aston Martin, named after a local Hillclimb course called Aston Hill. The First World War posed a threat to the brand’s existence, but it sprung back, led by Louis Zborowski. However, post-war, Aston Martin had a tumultuous time with frequent owners and repeated financial woes. It was only between 1947 and 1972, under the reins of David Brown, that the British brand found its direction with numerous iconic models. Later, the brand was owned by others, including Ford, and is currently owned by a consortium led by Canadian billionaire Lawrence Stroll.
As you might have guessed, Aston Martin has no dearth of iconic models. Some of these include DB5, DB6, DB4 GT, DBS, DB9, Vanquish, One-77, Vantage, DB2, DB11, Valkyrie, etc. What separates Aston Martin from other brands is the heritage, the effortless performance of its high-capacity engines and the unique styling. There’s no such thing as a bad-looking Aston Martin. Even the brand’s latest super SUV, the DBX, looks smashing.
As a used car, expect to pay big numbers for some models that have appreciated in value over the years. But that is never a bad thing when you get a car that looks and feels special even when it stands still. Plus, you get to be 007 without the pressure of saving the world from evil clutches.
Being a prestigious brand, Aston Martin cars come with all the advanced safety features such as driver assists, radar sensors, forward facing cameras, etc along with the usual set of safety features such as multiple airbags, electronic stability control, traction control, and anti-lock braking systems (ABS).
Aston Martin cars usually come with high-capacity V8 and V12 engines which develop a ton of horsepower, sacrificing fuel economy. Aston Martin models, like the Vantage and DB12 with the V8, generally offer fuel economy between 19 and 23 mpg when driven sensibly. Meanwhile, the DBX SUV with the V8 has a combined fuel consumption of 14-20 mpg.
Used Aston Martin models such as the DB7, Vantage and old DB9s are available for around 20,000! Yes, that’s a lot of supercar for not a lot of money. However, the maintenance and upkeep will still be of a 200,000 car. The more expensive models are the DB12 and the DBX with prices surpassing £200,000!
Yes, Aston Martin offers hybrid models in its current lineup and is also planning to launch electric models in the future. The British brand’s first hybrid model is the Valhalla, featuring a bespoke 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8.
Aston Martin’s reliability record solely depends on the model and model year. Some models such as the DB9 are known to be reliable, while some older models and the V8 Vantage have reported issues with electrical and air conditioning systems.
When buying a used Aston Martin vehicle, it is important to conduct thorough research on the model of your choice, and to find out about any potential issues specific to the model. Since Aston Martin is a premium brand, parts and repairs will also reflect the same. If possible, have a trusted mechanic, preferably one familiar with Aston Martin, conduct a thorough inspection of the vehicle. They can identify issues that may not be evident from a normal inspection. We also have experts at AA Vehicle Inspection who will look after everything and help you inspect a used Aston Martin car.
Yes, you could get a detailed inspection of a used Aston Martin car using AA Vehicle Inspection. We offer two levels of inspection.
