Overall rating 3.5/5Inspired by the classic and original Abarth 500 from the 1960s, the latest version arrived in 2008 with performance tweaks which made it sharper to drive than the Fiat 500 that it’s based on.

Overall rating 3.5/5The Fiat 500 has quickly become not only one of Fiat's top selling models, but one of the UK's. Mixing retro good looks and a fun, energetic drive, it is now a constant sight on the roads for its all-round excellent performance.
The Abarth 500 is Fiat's (Abarth is no longer a stand-alone manufacturer) power-enhanced variant, and introduces a sporting style kit (including a spoiler and bigger wheels), a turbocharged 1.4 litre engine, plenty of extra horsepower (133bhp), and a stiffer, more athletic suspension to the mix. The horsepower and engine size might not make the Abarth 500 sound like much of a sports hatch, but given its small frame and nimble body it feels very quick and energetic. Compared to its rivals such as the Twingo Renaultsport it lacks some ferocity and power, but as an energetic, playful alternative to the boy-racer hot hatch norm, the Abarth 500 is a welcome and excellent breath of fresh air.
