Saab brings flex-fuel to entire range

Saab has announced that every model in its line-up will now be available with an alternative fuel engine, claiming that it is the first car company in the UK to offer such a facility.

The manufacturer also stated that its flex-fuel technology will be on display at the Geneva Motor Show this year, in the form of the 1.8t BioPower engine in the 9-3 range.

This engine emits between 50 and 70 per cent less carbon dioxide than its petrol equivalent, according to Saab, while still producing 17 per cent more power.

It will be available in all three bodystyles in the 9-3 range – the sport saloon, sport wagon and convertible.

Jan Ake Jonsson, Saab’s managing director, said: "The success of the 9-5 BioPower has encouraged us to extend this concept to the 9-3 range.

"This means we can now offer BioPower variants throughout our core product line-up."

Saab is currently the biggest seller of flex-fuel cars in Europe and the company said that the Geneva Motor Show will provide a good opportunity to further strengthen its position in this segment.
