The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) have announced that the Ford Fiesta was the best-selling car in the UK in September. 18,651 new Ford Fiestas were sold during the month, sporting the new 62 number plates.
Vauxhall’s Corsa was second with 17,089 and Ford’s Focus third with 13,837. The Vauxhall Astra was fourth on 9,864; fifth was the Volkswagen Golf on 9,270; sixth the Mercedes-Benz C-Class on 7,948; seventh was the BMW 3 Series with 7,726; the Nissan Qashqai eighth with 7,471; Volkswagen’s Polo ninth with 7,291 and the Peugeot 208 tenth with 6,741.
Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive, confirmed:
“Although the economic outlook remains challenging, we are starting to see a tentative return of consumer confidence as motorists explore new products and the latest fuel-efficient technologies.”
