Fiat scoops awards

As the new year dawns, Fiat has managed to win a host of awards for its vehicles, the company has announced.

The new Fiat 500 has been awarded Car of the Year 2008 and has also been elected Best City Car in the BBC Top Gear Awards 2007.

Meanwhile, the auto manufacturer’s Fiat Grande Punto has also been named Carro do Ano 2008 in Brazil, beating other close contenders such as the Citreon C4, Nissan Sentra and Renault Logan.

In addition, the Fiat brand has scooped the AUTOBEST 2008 award – given out by a jury of journalists from 15 European countries – for its Linea model.

The car received a total of 850 points to finish ahead of the second-placed Kia C’eed and third-placed Mazda 2.

To win the Car of the Year 2008, vehicles are judged on features such as design, comfort, safety, economic operation, performance and practicality, among others.
