Nitro and Avenger to be ‘unleashed’ this summer

American muscle car maker Dodge has given details of its new Nitro SUV and Avenger saloon models, which will be let loose on the UK market this summer.

The brand, which is part of the Chrysler family and was responsible for the creation of the iconic Viper, describes the new models as "two of the most striking cars to ever hit the streets".

A "powerful yet practical saloon" is the account given of the Avenger, which features 18-inch wheels, a pronounced pair of rear shoulders and a choice of two- or 2.4-litre engines.

The two-litre petrol unit with a five-speed manual gearbox delivers 154bhp and a fuel economy of 36.2mpg. A diesel version of this engine is available, offering 45.6mpg, as well as a 2.4-litre petrol unit with a CVT automatic gearbox, which produces 167bhp.

A choice of 2.8-litre turbodiesel and 3.7-litre V6 petrol engines power the Nitro, generating 174bhp and 203bhp respectively.

The SUV has a 4×4 drivetrain, offering a "safe, confident drive", even on slippery or loose surfaces and in adverse weather conditions.

Introducing the new models, Peter Lambert, director of Chrysler UK, said: "People want to drive a car that helps them to stand out from the crowd and still manages to offer great value for money.

"Our new Dodge vehicles deliver bold and aggressive styling together with masses of standard kit that make them both incredibly good value."
