Overall rating 4/5As one of Seat’s smallest models the Ibiza has been a popular option for drivers after a no-frills car that is inexpensive to run and maintain. The Ibiza range spans five generations across over 40 years, showing that this car has a lasting appeal to drivers. This long life means that there are lots of used Ibizas to choose from, too.

Overall rating 4/5With its efficient engines and compact body size, the Ibiza can fit the bill for all types of drivers. It’s a popular choice among those who are newly passed, too, with this car’s low insurance groups and manageable running costs making it ideal for those who are starting out their driving careers.
There should be a used Ibiza to fit all budgets, too, with earlier models providing a good-value way of getting about. The very first generation of Ibiza is quite sought-after, however, with these now-classic models fetching high prices.
The fourth-generation Seat Ibiza - introduced in 2008 - remains a common sight on the used market and it receives a good range of safety equipment. For such a small car it is packed with airbags while ISOFIX points provide a strong and stable way of mounting a child seat in the rear of the car.
The Ibiza shares a platform with the Volkswagen Polo, and you’ll find the pair sharing engine options as a result. They’re all very efficient, starting with a 1.0-litre unit and finishing with a 1.4-litre setup. In terms of diesel, they’re available in a range of capacities going from 1.2- to 1.6-litre. There’s the option of either manual or automatic gearboxes, too.
All versions of the Seat Ibiza came equipped with body-coloured bumpers and cloth seats which are adjustable, while SE specification cars gain air conditioning, electric mirrors and heated wing mirrors - it’s this grade which is a popular option. The Ibiza has been available with a wide number of specifications over the years, so there will be a very to suit most budgets and requirements.
The Seat ibiza’s fuel efficiency is good across the board, with compact 1.2-litre diesel versions bringing up to 80mpg. However, even the standard petrol cars should achieve up to 50mpg and this is consistent throughout the car’s lifetime on sale, you can expect all versions to deliver good efficiency.
A popularity among first-time drivers means that used Seat Ibiza cars should be checked for low-speed damage and dented bumpers, as well as a clutch that works smoothly and properly without an overly high biting point. However, an AA Vehicle Inspection can provide some extra clarity through a detailed report produced by a trained engineer.
Across its time on sale the Seat Ibiza has proven to be a very reliable option, though an AA Vehicle Inspection could help to flag any issues that might be plaguing a car that you’re looking at. As well as a thorough inspection, a trained technician will take any car you’re considering the purchase of on a test drive to further check the vehicle.
The Seat Ibiza has a range of engine sizes, going from 1.0-litre petrol to 1.6-litre diesels.
