McLaren was founded by Bruce McLaren, a New Zealander in 1963 as a race car brand with involvement in the Can-Am championship. In 1965, McLaren constructed its first F1 car following an era of motorsport domination helmed by Ron Dennis.

However, it was only in1992, McLaren decided to build another road car, the revered F1, which is still one of the fastest cars ever made with 200mph+ top speed. This was followed by the SLR McLaren, MP4-12C and the gorgeous yet technically advanced P1 with a hybrid turbo V8 and trick aerodynamics. Later models such as the 650, 675 LT, 600 LT, Senna, 720, the smaller 540/570 established McLaren as a British supercar giant based out on Woking, Surrey. Today McLaren is owned by a consortium and is known for supercars that are light, clinically precise, extremely driver focused and engineered to extract the most performance on the road and a racetrack.
