Honda Civic 1.8 Litre buying guide
The Honda Civic with its 1.8-litre four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine remains a popular choice even in the used car market. This is down to the engine’s reliability and balance of power and fuel economy. This engine produces around 140 hp and is claimed to deliver around 40 mpg. In comparison to the base 1.4-litre petrol engine, the 1.8-litre engine delivers more thrills as it develops more power and torque. Although not as punchy as the diesel engines, the Civic 1.8 is a sensible option as a family car as it an engine you can depend on.
The later generations (10th-generation) replaced the R18 1.8-lite unit for turbo petrol engines. But these command a higher price in the used car space. In terms of pure value for money, the Honda Civic 1.8 is a brilliant buy and is available with automatic and manual gearbox options. Prices start from just £1000 for the early models circa 2006, going all the way to £15000 for the later ninth-generation models with revised styling and interiors.
