The Volkswagen Golf has proved to be a hit at the What Diesel Car of the Year Awards for 2009, after being crowned with an accolade.
Judges from the magazine, alongside some of its readers, declared the Golf to be the ‘Best Medium Car’, with the model fending off 22 other entrants to top the category.
Ian Robertson, editor of What Diesel magazine, commented when presenting the award: "If there’s a better designed, better built car of its size than the sixth generation Golf, we’ve yet to discover it."
In all, Volkswagen collected three awards on the night, with the Scirocco successful in the ‘Best Coupe’ category and the company claiming the Green Award.
Mr Robertson added: "Volkswagen has taken great strides this year in trying to reduce environmental impact, having unveiled the 99g/km Golf BlueMotion and 87g/km Polo BlueMotion II Concept.
Meanwhile, the Golf was also successful in the ‘Best Small Family Car’ category at the recent Fleet News Awards, where it was praised for its economy and refined engines.
