Daihatsu specialised in small cars and compact four-wheel drives. UK used choices include the Charade and Sirion hatchbacks, the boxy Materia, the 2-seat Copen roadster and the Terios SUV. Older Fourtrak models offer a more traditional off-road layout, although they are now much rarer.
Daihatsu stopped selling new cars in Europe in January 2013, while continuing after-sales and parts support beyond that date. Most used examples are therefore older, so buy on condition and history. Check the MOT record for corrosion and repeated advisories, make sure the engine and gearbox run smoothly and inspect the folding roof on a Copen. Parts availability can differ between models, so confirm it before committing to a rarer car. A well-maintained Sirion, Charade or Terios can still make straightforward everyday transport.
