What is a nearly new car?

Nearly new cars are mainly pre-registered cars, less than six months old, and have fewer than 300 miles on the clock. These cars are registered with the DVLA, so they come with an assigned registration number. However, they are owned by the dealer and not a private user, so they aren't technically classified as used cars.

The downside? You cannot select the exact colour, trim, or options you want, as you have to pick a car from the existing stock. The upside? It's cheaper than ordering a new car, and you could even get the car delivered immediately compared to a new car. Plus, the best part — you get that new car feeling!

Things to consider when buying nearly new cars

Warranty

Manufacturer warranty starts from the first date of registration. So, make sure to check this with the dealer to find out how long ago the car was first registered in the dealer's name.

MOT date

As with any new car, the first MOT will be due three years from the car's initial registration date. So, if the car was registered six months ago, you may need to MOT it six months earlier than you would with a brand-new car.

Previous keepers

Since the car is already registered in the dealer's name, you will technically be the second owner. Unlike a new car, which is first registered in your name.
