The 'S' in Cat S refers to structural damage. This means the vehicle previously sustained damage to its structure or chassis. However, all vehicles listed on AA Cars have been professionally repaired to a safe, roadworthy condition.
Any damage that affects the structure of a vehicle, such as the chassis, crumple zones, or suspension/steering, is considered structural damage. Some examples include a bent chassis, collapsed suspension/crumple zones, or a compromised floor. If a vehicle has been written off as Cat S, it must be professionally repaired and inspected. Once roadworthy, it can be driven again, provided it has a valid MOT. DVLA will also record the vehicle’s category in the logbook.

Insurance providers may refuse coverage, charge a higher premium, or only offer third-party cover. So, make sure to check with insurers before buying a Cat S car.
Before you buy, make sure to ask for evidence of damage and a full repair history with pictures to ensure everything has been restored to a high standard.
The value of a Cat S car will be significantly lower than a non-category car. So, it might be difficult to sell the car in the future, and dealers might not accept them as part exchange.
