The 'S' in Cat S stands for structural damage. This means the vehicle has damage to its structure/chassis, which is more than just cosmetic damage. But the vehicle can be professionally repaired, making it safe and roadworthy.
Any damage that affects the key structure of a vehicle, such as the chassis, crumple zones, or suspension/steering, is considered structural damage. Some examples include a bent chassis, collapsed suspension/crumple zones, or a compromised floor. If a vehicle has been written off as Category S (Cat S), it will have to be re-registered with the DVLA following an inspection.

Insurance providers may refuse coverage, charge a higher premium, or only offer third-party cover. So, make sure to check with insurers before buying a Cat S car.
Before you buy, make sure to ask for evidence of damage and a full repair history with pictures to ensure everything has been restored to a high standard.
The value of a Cat S car will be significantly lower than a non-category car. So, it might be difficult to sell the car in the future, and dealers might not accept them as part exchange.
