In town, the light steering and responsive powertrains (especially the hybrids) make manoeuvring straightforward, despite the XC60’s substantial size. The central touchscreen is vertically oriented and controls most vehicle functions. While stylish and cleanly laid-out, it can take some time to master properly. The driving position is highly adjustable, and comfort is a strong point, especially with Volvo’s renowned seats, which are both heated and ventilated on higher-spec models and are supremely comfortable.
The boot offers a practical 483 litres, expanding to 1,410 litres with the rear seats folded – perfect for those trips to IKEA. While some rivals boast slightly larger capacities, the XC60’s boot is wide, flat, and easily accessible, with a powered tailgate on most models. Interior storage is generous, with deep door bins, cupholders, and a spacious centre console. A wireless charging pad and multiple USB-C ports cater for modern devices. Wide-opening doors, ISOFIX points on the outer rear seats, and a hands-free power tailgate further enhance convenience.
All XC60s are well-equipped as standard, with features including a digital driver display, Sensus navigation, dual-zone climate control, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto (wireless on later models), rear parking sensors, and a power tailgate. Higher trims add luxuries such as Harman/Kardon or Bowers & Wilkins audio, ventilated seats, a head-up display, adaptive cruise control, and advanced driver assistance systems.

The standard warranty is three years or 60,000 miles, with options to extend.
Fuel economy varies by model: mild-hybrid petrol engines return 35–45 mpg (WLTP), while the T8 Recharge plug-in hybrid achieves up to 52 mpg combined, with CO₂ emissions as low as 33 g/km (WLTP). The plug-in hybrid’s official economy exceeds 100 mpg with regular charging, but only if you have a short commute.
Annual road tax (VED) starts at £10 for plug-in hybrids, but cars over £40,000 incur the Expensive Car Supplement, costing £620 annually for years two to five, then reverting to £195 per year. Insurance groups range from 33 to 42. Volvo recommends servicing every year or 18,000 miles, with fixed-price service plans available.
