Lewis enjoying the splendid isolation of Finnish training camp

Lewis Hamilton has revealed that he is enjoying his preparations for defending his world crown during a week-long intensive training camp in remote western Finland.

Fitness experts at the Kuortane Sports Institute are putting the Brit driving legend through his paces in an atmosphere as far removed from a holiday camp as you could hope to find.

"It’s certainly not an easy week as Finland in the winter is cold and icy, and we’re pushed hard for day after day," the champ said.

How he must be looking forward to returning to the milder weather of Britain where a warm reception will await him in December when he attends the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards.

Hamilton has just been nominated on the ten-strong shortlist to pick up the award. He will face competition from a boxer, four cyclists, a sailor, a tennis player, a swimmer and an athlete.

According to the bookies, Olympic gold medal swimmer Rebecca Adlington poses the biggest challenge to his hopes of ending the year with another award to put on his crowded mantelpiece.
