Motorsport legend Sir Stirling Moss has said he fully expects Lewis Hamilton to win the Formula One world championship this year and described the young Englishman as one of the best drivers he has ever seen.
The comments are high praise indeed from a man who completed almost 500 races in his professional career, winning 194.
Hamilton has made an incredible start to his Formula One career and Moss said that he would be "surprised and disappointed" if the McLaren driver failed to go on to win the championship this year.
Speaking to the Daily Mirror, he said: "I’ve been connected with motor racing for 60 years and he’s the best I’ve ever seen.
"I feel sorry for his McLaren team-mate Fernando Alonso because in any other era he would be looking at years of supremacy but suddenly this guy he’d probably never heard of has come along."
Hamilton will look to achieve a hat-trick of wins at Magny-Cours in France this weekend and extend his lead at the top of the Formula One drivers’ tournament.
