Last week the Government announced that driverless cars will take to the road in the UK in January 2015.

The trials for these cars will last somewhere between eighteen months and three years. Three cities will be able to host the trials, and each will be eligible for a share of the Government’s £10 million of funding.

Driverless cars are already in use in a number of countries, including America, Japan and Sweden, but this is the first time that they will be trialled properly in the UK.

Business Secretary Vince Cable test drove one of the driverless cars in Nuneaton, praising their safety and the cutting edge technology they contain. He hopes that driverless cars will put “us at the forefront of this transformational technology and opening up new opportunities for our economy and society.”
