UK drivers are choosing fuel efficient cars with low carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions and the environment is benefitting, an official report has confirmed.
The SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders) have confirmed that technology improvements, rising fuel prices and changing consumer tastes, have resulted in a 23% fall in average CO2 emissions since 2000. SMMT’s chief executive, Paul Everitt went even further when celebrating the impact of low emission cars on the UK economy: “Future environmental and economic success will be determined by sustained investment in new technology, research and development, infrastructure and consumer incentives,” he confirmed.
