Weakest Link’s Anne Robinson banned from driving

Weakest Link presenter Anne Robinson has been banned from driving for six months.

The 63-year-old admitted speeding in her Audi A3 at 43mph in a 30mph zone in Portsmouth, in August of last year.

She was not in court to hear a judge sentence her to a £100 fine with £50 costs. Four penalty points were added to the nine already on her licence.

Michael McGoldrick, mitigating, said: "My client accepts that she will be disqualified and she wanted me to apologise for what happened and apologise for taking up the court’s time."

His defence that it was his client’s point of view that disqualification would cause "significant inconvenience" to her as she travelled between 40,000 and 50,000 miles each year in her car cut little ice with the judge although he did acknowledge that it was unfortunate that the TV star’s first trip to Portsmouth had been such an unhappy one.

Confused.com has calculated that the average car insurance that Ms Robinson will now be able to purchase will be 75 per cent – or £539.95 – more expensive than when she did not have any convictions at all.
