Drivers who do not keep their cars and vans tidy may find that they are missing out on money when it becomes time to sell, new research has indicated.
Motor Trader reports that fish4cars has claimed bad habits such as eating and smoking behind the wheel can cost motorists as much as £90 million each year.
Some 68 per cent of people stated that they eat while on the road and over half revealed that they light up in their cars, it added.
Spokesman for the fish4cars website Colin Mathieson commented that motorists in the UK may be taking their vehicles for granted.
"We do things in them we would never dream of doing in the comfort of our living room," said the representative.
Meanwhile, the website last month revealed that £37 million per year is squandered by motor retailers on online advertising.
