The transport research foundation has approved a major software upgrade
to the computerised systems that manage traffic flow.
TRANSYT 13 is a graphic simulator which can calculate how all the
junctions and traffic controls, such as traffic lights, work together to
keep the traffic moving during rush-hours as well as other times.
The upgrade from TRANSYT to TRANSYT 13 makes training new staff easier
and can calculate more complicated sequences of changes to filter some
traffic through alongside other lanes which are waiting.
The TRANSYT 13 system can also schedule to allow for trams and
pedestrian controls as well as road users.
