Drivers warned of dangers of foreign roads

Britons planning on driving abroad during their summer holidays have been issued with a stark warning concerning the importance of securing adequate travel insurance and assistance.

Avis Rent a Car has noted that thousands of motorists from the UK have car accidents while abroad every year, which highlights the need for comprehensive cover.

In a bid to aid motorists further, Avis commercial director Daniel McCarthy has also offered a number of tips to help them avoid incidents as well as prepare for every eventuality.

First on the list is journey planning, as accidents are more likely to be avoided if drivers are familiar with the route they’re taking.

Having essential contact telephone numbers is also advocated in case disaster strikes, as this will at least make even the most desperate of situations easier.

It is also worth bearing in mind that most European drink-drive laws are stricter than in the UK, while the final point is perhaps the most obvious and also the most pertinent – remember which side of the road you are travelling on.
