Expert Opinion

First released in 2002, the Daewoo Lacetti is the South Korean manufacturer's (now part of Chevrolet) premier family hatchback. One which bolsters their reputation for creating cheerfully cheap city cars with style, fun and efficiency. Having been designed by Italian design studio Italdesign, it manages an air of sophisticate style which not all Daewoos can claim, but under the bonnet it is much the same. On the road it is competent rather than constantly engaging; refinement can sometimes be lacking and there are just two engines to choose from: either a 1.4 or 1,6 litre petrol. The latter is easily the best, and while it isn't particularly dynamic, the Lacetti, with okay space, chic design and an affordable price, is a sensible - just not scintillating - choice.
