Ford Fiesta 1.4 Litre buying guide
The Ford Fiesta with the 1.4 engine was a popular choice before the EcoBoost powertrains entered the market. These engines offered more punch than the base 1.2-litre petrol unit, while the diesel 1.4-litre TDCI was all about fuel economy. The petrol unit developed around 95 hp in both the fifth and sixth generation Fiesta. Although not a powerhouse by any yardstick, this engine developed 124 -128 Nm from a low rpm, making it ideal for city driving.
Meanwhile, the 1.4-litre TDCi developed around 67 hp and 160 Nm of torque. These are small numbers in contrast to the competition, but this engine was good for 60 to 70 mpg. Both the petrol and diesel 1.4 engines slotted below the 1.6 engines, which were range-topping with more performance. Used Ford Fiestas with 1.4 engines are some of the most affordable cars with prices commencing from £1000. The later sixth-generation models command a bit more premium with prices hovering around £7000.
