Lexus tries out at endurance race

The Nurburgring 24-hour race on May 24th and May 25th 2008 will see
Lexus enter a concept car, in an attempt to test the stamina of some of
their developing technologies.

The car will only be equipped with additional safety equipment – including roll cage and fuel tank – necessary to meet racing regulations.

The LF-A concept was originally shown in 2005 as a supercar, but the
team of Japanese drivers, and the mechanics, will use this race as an
opportunity to gain experience and training in "live" race conditions.

Lexus are particularly interested in the performance of the 500+ bhp V10
engine. They are hoping that 200 mph is not only possible, but probable.
The engine, mounted at the front but with rear transmission and
radiators, has been engineered to make weight-distribution and
handling optimum.
