First Look – Porsche Cayenne Turbo S

Say hello to a bi-turbo 4.8-litre V8 and 542bhp – it’s packed beneath the new Porsche Cayenne Turbo S. It’s a pretty safe bet that BMW are eyeing the latest addition to the Porsche garage, it’s set to go head-to-head with the fellow German car company’s X6M.

The new Porsche Cayenne Turbo S offers 42 more break horse power than its Turbo predecessor while delivering no drop in fuel efficiency or increase in CO2.

What it does offer is Porsche’s familiar commitment to acronyms, mnemonics and, to be blunt, confusion. There’s ‘PASM’ suspension(?) and Porsche Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC to Porsche) – PDCC ensure the car remains agile when going full tilt. There’s Porsche’s Torque Vectoring technology (PTV Plus, wouldn’t you know it). What does that do? It sends power to whichever wheel that has the most grip and locks the rear differential to ensure the Turbo S’ 21” alloys stay stick-tight to the tarmac.

In the Turbo S you’ll get from 0-62mph in 4.5sec (0.2sec quicker than your Turbo) and reach 175mph – 3mph faster than its older brother. Both cars offer 24.6mpg and 270g/km.

New on the Turbo S are gloss black headlight surrounds, mirrors, grilles and those bigger rims. Inside the Cayenne cabin, you can order two-tone leather combos. The Turbo S is expected in the UK showrooms from January 2013 and is a snip at just £107,460, £19,734 more than a low-fat Turbo.
