Dodge is a household name in the United States, where it has been selling a range of vehicles for decades. It’s best known for its hard-wearing trucks - as well as performance models like the famous Viper - but in the UK, it’s not as commonly found. Dodge aimed to change that when it started selling cars in the mid-1990s here.
Today, Dodge vehicles aren’t all that commonplace on the used market, but they do offer something different for drivers after a left-field choice. Key models include the Nitro and Journey, though you’ll also find imported models like the Challenger.
Most Dodge models get a good range of safety features, with all cars getting a suite of airbags and an electronic stability control system. Curtain airbags can help keep occupants safe in the event of a side collision.
Dodge cars offer decent fuel efficiency, with the Nitro able to deliver between 24 and 32mpg during mixed driving. The Journey, meanwhile, should return between 32 and 44mpg, depending on driving scenarios. If you opt for a V8-powered Challenger or another one of Dodge’s imported sports cars, you can expect to get high fuel consumption in the region of 15mpg.
Used Dodge prices start from around £3,500 for a Journey with average miles on the clock, rising to over £85,000 for an imported Challenger.
Dodge never offered any hybrid or electric models in the UK.
Many Dodge vehicles sold in the UK used engines sourced from other manufacturers. The Avenger, for instance, used Volkswagen powertrains, which will put them in good stead reliability-wise. However, cheaper plastics and poor fit-and-finish inside mean that by now, used examples may be showing their age inside.
We’d always recommend checking out any vehicle’s service history to see whether or not it has been cared for during its time on the road. It’s also a good idea to look at its MOT history to see how it has fared in recent examinations. For a greater level of detail, consider an AA Vehicle Inspection. We’ll send out a trained engineer who can take a look at the car on your behalf and highlight any issues they find.
Of course. A more detailed inspection of a used car is never a bad thing and it’s available on Dodge cars, too. Just get in touch to speak about organising an AA Vehicle Inspection today.
Currently, Dodge cars are not available to lease via AA Leasing.
