The Hyundai i800 eight-seat MPV has been recommended as an excellent choice of car for UK surfers.
Sarah Whiteley, who runs the Walking on Waves surf school at Saunton Beach in Devon, said that it was the perfect choice of vehicle to carry her wetsuits, boards and kit down to the beach.
"An archetypal surfer’s vehicle is a VW camper, but the last thing I wanted to do is get into an unrefined, unreliable vehicle after an exhausting day on the waves," she said.
Not only does the Hyundai act as an excellent practical car, it also serves as a meeting point because it stands out against the older camper vans seen in beach car parks.
The i800 has a massive 851 litres of space – even when it is loaded with eight adults. If it doesn’t have any passengers a surfboard can easily fit in the back, which avoids the inconvenience of roof rails.
Hyundai’s i800 won the Caravan Club’s best tow-car in the £16,000 to £20,000 category earlier this month.
