Eco-friendly Peugeot Citroen engine tops 10 million sales

The HDi engine developed by Peugeot Citroen has sold more than ten million units.

Motorists have been driving away vehicles containing the technology since 1998 and have been subsequently rewarded with "superior environmental performance, driveability and fuel efficiency".

The development of the diesel engine has also allowed the company to produce an array of new products to go under the hood, including the 2.7-litre V6.

"The HDi family of engines has enabled PSA Peugeot Citroen to maintain and expand its leadership in diesel technology and to outpace the fast growth in diesel sales in Europe over the past ten years," the company commented.

Meanwhile, Forbes has reported that the chairman of Peugeot Citroen has commented to La Tribune that the company must "become a little bit German" in its approach to quality and mechanics.

The company was founded in 1976 and its headquarters can be found in Paris and Sochaux-Montbeliard.
