Toyota sales increased 3.2 per cent in 2007

Japanese automobile manufacturer Toyota has become the latest company to announce record growth over the course of 2007.

The company has announced sales of 118,432 under the Toyota brand, while Lexus-badge vehicles were picked up by 15,113.

It added that some 8,750 Prius models were sold – a "record high" and an example of the direction – environmentally-friendly and eco-conscious – in which the industry is heading.

Toyota managing director Miguel Fonseca commented on the momentum that the firm has built up.

"We are committed to providing motorists with cars of high quality that are safe, rewarding to drive and have less impact on the environment, supported by the highest levels of customer service from our centres," he said.

Toyota develops cars, robotics and biotechnology, as well as financial services.

It owns the Scion and Lexus brands, the latter being established in order to lead the luxury vehicle market.
