The Suzuki Grand Vitara has been named the compact 4×4 of the year by Germany’s top-selling off-road vehicle magazine AutoBild Allrad.
Half of the publication’s circulation, 35,000 readers in total, voted the Grand Vitara their top compact 4×4 for 2007.
According to Suzuki, the vehicle, which is available in 1.6, 1.9 and two-litre form with three or five doors, represents the brand’s philosophy of combining off-road competence with on-road performance.
Within the range, the manufacturer described the 1.6 three-door variant as essentially a ‘soft-roader’, while the rest of the range offers "serious and outstanding off-road capability" owing to permanent four-wheel drive.
The Grand Vitara’s lightweight monocoque body with a built-in ladder frame is credited for providing rigidity in the car’s structure, while the suspension is responsible for delivering driver comfort and responsive handling.
Among the vehicle’s range of standard equipment is climate control air conditioning, front electric windows, tinted glass, reclining rear seats and alloy wheels.
