Range Rover takes leisure car of the year award

Range Rover’s Sport model has "once again proved its versatility" by winning the leisure car category of the 2006-07 Axa car of the year awards, the manufacturer has announced.

The award was given to the Range Rover Sport by the Ulster Motoring Writers Association (UMWA), the president of which, Jim McCauley, said the model was "an outstanding testament to the UK motor industry".

Mr McCauley pointed out that, as well as having "outstanding" on- and off-road capability, the 4×4 model offers a quality driving environment with "few equals".

John Edwards, managing director of Land Rover UK, said that this award is the latest piece of good news in what has been a positive last 12 months for the Sport model.

"The Range Rover Sport had a record sales year in the UK in 2006 and winning this award is a fantastic way to cap it off," Mr Edwards commented.

"This remarkable achievement proves the strong appeal of the vehicle and its true breadth of capability."

The Range Rover Sport is currently on sale at Land Rover dealerships across the UK, with prices starting at £35,665 on the road.
