The Ford Focus RS is set to have some competition in the marketplace following the development of a new vehicle from Audi, it has been stated.
Greg Kable states for Autocar that the hot hatch market will have a new contender when it comes to speed thanks to the Audi RS3.
With Audi looking to enhance the appeal of the Audi A3, it has looked for extra performance by fitting the RS3 with a turbo 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine.
This alongside a new seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox will help motorists benefit from a performance similar to that they can currently experience in cars such as the Focus RS and the upcoming Renaultsport Megane.
However, unfortunately for those interested in the Audi, the vehicle is not set to be launched until 2012, while a broader range of models based on the Audi A3 are not set to reach the market until early 2011.
According to Jost Capito, director of global performance vehicles and motorsport business development at Ford, the Focus RS is "a serious machine with the performance, traction and precision to match far more exotic sports cars".
