The stunning scenery of the Jurassic Coast is the most popular UK road trip with almost one quarter of drivers having travelled the route. So it’s only fitting that The AA launches a partnership with the action-packed adventure of the summer, Jurassic World Rebirth, from Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment. The film arrives in cinemas July 2.
An AA/Yonder survey* showed 23% of drivers have travelled the stretch between Swanage and Lyme Regis, which takes in the UK’s only World Heritage Site.
“Road trips are a summer staple for many drivers and we are spoilt for choice of routes here in the UK.”
Overall, the UK’s top ten most popular road trips:
- Swanage to Lyme Regis (Jurassic Coast, Dorset) (23%)
- Atlantic Highway, Barnstaple to Newquay (Devon and Cornwall) (22%)
- The Gower Peninsula, Wales. (21%)
- Thetford to King's Lynn (Norfolk) (19%)
- Danby to York across the Yorkshire moors (17%)
- Northumberland 250 (border of Berwick-upon-Tweed and Kielde) (16%)
- North Coast 500 (Scottish Highlands) (14%)
- M25 (Complete circuit in one trip) (13%)
- Giant's Causeway coastal route (Northern Ireland) (9%)
- Bishop's Waltham to Winchester (Hampshire) (9%)
Younger drivers were the most likely to say they had driven an entire circuit of the M25 (16%). Completing an entire circuit of the M25 was also the least enjoyed of all the routes, with only 13% saying they enjoyed it.
The route which road trippers enjoyed the most was the North Coast 500 in the Scottish Highlands, with a 93% having a good experience.
Open fields and countryside was ranked the most preferred scenery to drive through (41%); followed by coastal roads (29%) and mountains (12%).

“The preferred scenery for drivers is open countryside and coastal roads so it’s understandable why the Jurassic Coast has proved to be the most popular road trip and why so many have enjoyed this journey.
“While fewer drivers have travelled the North Coast 500 in the Scottish Highlands, it is the most enjoyed route – a testament to the beautiful landscape in Scotland.”
This summer The AA is joining in with dino-fever this summer to mark the launch of Universal Pictures and Amblin Entertainment’s Jurassic World Rebirth, which arrives in cinemas July 2, 2025.
To mark the occasion, four special vans will hit the roads to rescue AA members this summer, with the iconic AA yellow livery swapped for a Jurassic World Rebirth car-nivore theme.
Anyone who spots one of the vans, which have been on the road since the start of July, can enter online to win a Jurassic World Rebirth goodie bag.**
If the possibility of being rescued by a dino-van isn’t enough to make you become an AA member, if you join between July 1st and July 16th you will be automatically entered into a draw to win a family adventure holiday to the Ardeche, France. The prize, for 2 adults and 2 children, includes £1,000 spending money, an exciting canoe tour plus admission to the Grotte Chauvet 2 (the world’s largest cave replica).
For those who are already AA members, they have the chance to win 3 nights’ luxury safari tent glamping accommodation on the Jurassic Coast.***
The advertising campaign, with advertising directed to both new and existing customers, began with outdoor posters on Monday 23 June, followed by a special 3D execution on the Southbank on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 June.
