At Home breakdown cover

Yes, we’ll come to your house for breakdowns if you have At Home breakdown cover on your policy. Even if you don’t have it, you can still call us and we’ll arrange for a patrol to come out and help you. If your property is inaccessible due to adverse weather conditions (e.g. due to heavy snow or flooding) our patrols may not be able to attend until the obstruction is cleared.

Our patrols will attempt to repair the problem with your vehicle where you break down, but if that’s not possible, your vehicle will be towed to a local garage.

At Home breakdown cover gives you Roadside Assistance right up to your door. It’s particularly useful for common overnight breakdown problems like flat tyres or engine issues, or when your car simply won’t start in the morning.

If your car is broken down at home in the morning but you still need to go to work, you can arrange for one of our patrols to come to you when you’re back home later in the day. 

At Home doesn’t include any of our other options like National Recovery or Onward Travel.

If you want to be able to get a lift to any UK destination after breaking down, you’ll need National Recovery. To get alternative transport or overnight stays covered by us, you’ll need Onward Travel.

If you break down at home or within 1/4 mile of your address but don’t have At Home breakdown cover, you can still call us and we’ll arrange for a patrol to come out to you. You’ll need to upgrade your policy to include At Home – we’ll charge an upgrade fee and a surcharge for using the service immediately.

Follow these four steps if you break down:

1 – Make sure you’re in a safe place. Move your vehicle off the road if possible, or pull up onto the hard shoulder if you’re on the motorway.

2 – Stay well away from moving traffic – it’s usually safest to get out of your car (using the doors facing away from passing traffic) and wait behind a barrier.

3 – Put your hazard warning lights on and wear a reflective jacket, if you have one.

4 – Once you’re safe, give us a call. We’ll come and rescue you, even if you’re not a member yet.

If you’ve got vehicle cover, change your vehicle details as soon as you can.

With single, joint or family personal cover, you'll only need to change your vehicle details if you have Commercial Use or Parts and Garage Cover added to your policy.

It's simple to change your vehicle details online, and we’ll check that your new vehicle is eligible (terms and conditions apply).

We'll help with breakdowns that happen from 24 hours after you’ve updated us.

If you have Tyre Cover, you’ll only be able to claim for tyre repairs or replacements after the first 7 days. 

If you have Parts and Garage Cover, you’ll only be able to claim for new faults that occur after the first 14 days.
